چکیده

Given the trend towards a user-centric concept in mobile communications, body area networks have received increasing attention within the wireless personal area community. Researchers and designers have been investigating radio propagation characterisation and modelling owing to its importance in developing and designing efficient and reliable radio systems. The paper presents an experimental investigation of ultra-wideband (UWB) on-body radio propagation. Channel models with respect to large scale and delay analysis have been derived from measured parameters. Effects of different antenna types on channel behaviour are also demonstrated. Results and analyses highlight the consequences of changes in body postures and positions in addition to antenna orientations on the communication channels. Measurement data are also used in predicting the performance of potential UWB wireless systems and their applications in body-centric networks. It is indicated that bi-phase modulation for UWB bodycentric networks performs better than pulse position modulation systems. The study also concludes that the use of hybrid antenna types for different on-body links will provide better system performance.

Ultra-Wideband Printed Antennas Design

On February 14, 2002, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States adopted the First Report and Order that permitted the commercial operation of ultra wideband (UWB) technology (FCC, 2002). The FCC allocated a bandwidth of 7.5GHz, i.e. from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz, to unlicensed use for UWB applications. Ultra Wideband is defined as any communication technology that occupies great...

Combining Wireless Optical and UWB for low data rate applications

Recent developments in the field of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radio and networks led to the definition of a new Impulse Radio (IR) UWB-based IEEE standard for low data rate communications, named IEEE 802.15.4a. A typical feature of UWB radio is a large bandwidth together with limited available emission power, as set by regulatory bodies. UWB communications may, therefore, be severely affected by ex...

Ultra-Wideband Low-Noise Amplifier and Six-Port Transceiver for High Speed Data Transmission

Today’s data rates in wired networks can reach 100 Gbit/s using optical fiber while data rates in wireless networks are much lower tens of Mbit/s for 3G mobile communication and 480 Mbit/s for ultra-wideband (UWB) short range wireless communications. This difference in data rates can mainly be explained by the limited allowed frequency spectrum, the nature of the radio signal and the high requi...
